Automatically Email Reports from Your Database

by Adhaar Sharma on 2021-03-02

As a small business owner, I am constantly worried about my metrics.

How many users signed up yesterday?

How much revenue did we have this week?

What are the emails of people who canceled?

Before using DB Spreadsheets, I always had to bother my Data Analyst.

She never complained but I could always detect a *sigh* when she had to run the same report for the umpteenth time and email it to me

Now, she has set up auto-reporting using DB Spreadsheets and I get all these reports directly in my inbox as an Excel Spreadsheet!

I can then open my Spreadsheet to look and track everything I need.

How do I set up these reports?

The person in charge of database operations will need to set up these reports

For example, for my What are the emails of people who canceled? report, the data analyst created a new report and wrote the following query

    select customer_email, sign_up_dt,
    plan_info, cancel_dt from customer_table
    where is_cancel = True
    and cancel_dt > CURRENT_DATE - 7;

Then from the dashboard, she set the email to send every week on Monday morning

This set-up eliminated a constant load of work from my Data Analyst and saved me from trying to find her each Monday morning :)
